Unfixed Values

2026 -

Values That Are Not Fixed

Unfixed Values is a series that explores the idea that value is never fixed as a single, absolute thing. At present, the series begins with plants familiar to us in everyday life, but it is not limited to plants themselves. Around a single subject, personal memories, emotions, and accumulated time intersect, giving rise to forms of value that cannot be measured in monetary terms.

Through this series, Takahashi seeks to capture values that shift depending on the viewer and the passage of time. Value is not absolute; it is something that continues to change, altering the way it appears.

Bedside Stories

Stories Beside Sleep

Bedside Stories is a series centered on the motif of a toy bed. A bed is a place to sleep, a place to rest, and a small space of belonging made for someone.

In this series, the bed is sometimes placed not inside a room, but within natural settings such as flowers or forests. Nature may appear as a celebration of abundant life, yet it is also something that circulates at a speed far beyond that of human beings. Takahashi feels that humans do not exist outside of this cycle, but are instead part of it.

Within that sense of solitude and unease, there is a figure finding a place of comfort and holding onto reassurance. This is the feeling at the heart of Bedside Stories. Beds and stuffed animals symbolize protected spaces and the time needed for recovery. Through places of sleep and rest, the series depicts the threshold between life and death, inside and outside, human beings and nature.

Children of the Future

2024 -

Children of the Future is a series that reflects on the future, the trace of aggression, and what is passed down from adults and society, through the motifs of children and toy-like objects.

The children who appear in the works are not specific individuals. They are figures of who we once were, while also representing the next generation who will live in the world to come. Children are innocent and should be protected, yet they are also unstable and deeply human beings, shaped by the influences they receive from the outside.

The gun held by the child in the work is not an actual weapon, but something made from colorful building blocks. Blocks are, by nature, free materials that can become anything. Yet at the same time, they can also become a gun. Takahashi sees this not as the result of deep understanding, but as a form that can be innocently created precisely because its meaning is not yet fully known.

Through the figures of children, this series considers what we receive, what we pass on to the future, and what they will choose beyond that point. Rather than condemning aggression, it holds an expectation toward the possibilities contained within beings who are not yet defined.
